Statement Made Jewellery’s top tips for wearing jewellery to the beach
Wearing jewellery to the beach has long been a fashion faux-pas but we don’t think that it should be!
That being said, with the salt, sand and sun cream lotion to contend with, you are right to be a little bit worried about wearing jewellery to the beach. That doesn’t mean you can’t do it at all, it just means that you need to put a little bit more thought into which pieces you put on in the morning.
So, before you go out for a day of sunbathing and swimming whilst wearing your favourite ring or a family heirloom, here are our tips for wearing jewellery to the beach:
Avoid wearing rings:
Rings are the most commonly lost item of jewellery at the beach. The sea water, sunscreen, and sweat (gross, we know) can all work to loosen your ring from your finger and, before you know it, you’ll find yourself scrabbling around in the sand trying to find it. If you’re planning a day at the beach, especially one that involves a dip in the sea, it would be best to leave your ring safely at home.
Consider the materials your jewellery is made from:
Some materials simply don’t do well on the beach, whereas others can withstand the salt and sand much better so it’s important to consider the materials that your jewellery is made from. Materials such as platinum, gold, and diamonds tend to be ok on the beach as they are more hard-wearing. Plated jewellery, specifically rose-plated jewellery does not fare so well and should definitely be left at home if you would like to avoid damage occurring!
Layer your jewellery:
As a general rule, people tend to wear fewer items of clothing to the beach so now is the time to really make your jewellery stand out! Layer your jewellery to make it the focal point of your beach outfit.
Consider the pieces you’re wearing:
We’ve already said that rings should be a no-go at the beach but what pieces work best? Brightly coloured necklaces, bracelets, and anklets look great on the beach and are the most practical pieces to wear as you’re less likely to lose them!
Keep in mind your tan lines!
Big jewellery can look great at the beach but if you’re settling down for a spot of sunbathing don’t forget to remove your jewellery to avoid coming away at the end of the day with some rather odd-looking tan lines!
Takeaway tips for wearing jewellery at the beach:
- Avoid wearing plated jewellery, especially rose-plated items as the copper will tarnish very easily!
- Remember to take your rings off before heading to the beach.
- Stick to wearing necklaces, bracelets, and anklets at the beach.
